(Paul Jacoulet 1896-1960)

Paul Jacoulet (1896-1960), Donor Mrs. Seongsoon Rah's adoptive father, was a French artist. Since he came to Asia in 1899, he spent most of his life in parts of Asia such as Korea, Japan, China, and Micronesia, and portrayed the diverse races of the Asian people in his multicolor prints. Paul Jacoulet shared his life with the family of Seongsoon Rah. He was treated like a true member of their family, and visited Korea several times in the 1930s to portray the Korean people through his gentle eyes. In addition, Jacoulet depicted the people he encountered during his life, including the people in Japan where he lived, China where he had many friends, and Micronesia where he traveled for his butterfly collection. The harmony between humans and color based on Paul Jacoulet's warm affection goes beyond typical notions of Orientalism, or a taste for the exotic.

InterContinental Boston

Boston, Massachusetts
The InterContinental Boston will be a $330 million, 21 story waterfront hotel and residential project. It will include 424 hotel rooms and 130 luxury condos on its upper floors to be called The Residences at the InterContinental. It will be the first InterContinental hotel in Boston.

Located at 500 Atlantic Avenue, the site of this hotel-residence is in the Financial District between the proposed Rose Kennedy Greenway and Fort Point Channel. It is a stellar location overlooking the Boston Harbor in Russia Wharf, an area that is undergoing a complete transformation.

The InterContinental Boston project has been in the conceptual stage for nearly 14 years. Construction is now underway and slated for completion in August/September 2006.

Condos at the InterContinental Boston will be perched above the hotel suites and will range from studios to four-bedroom penthouses, all finely appointed with luxury details like marble and limestone baths, hardwood floors and granite counters. They'll have a choice of water or park views. Prices start at $725,000.

Residence owners at the InterContinental Boston will be able to enjoy a wide range of first class hotel amenities including a health club with indoor pool and spa, fine dining, unique retail and public open space along both the waterfront and the Rose Kennedy Greenway. Services will include 24-hour security, doorman and concierge.

The developers are Gary Barnett and Brian Fallon of Intell Boston Harbor LLC. According to Mr. Fallon, "As the Central Artery project nears completion, the Atlantic avenue waterfront area has become one of the city's most sophisticated neighborhoods. We are confident that InterContinental Boston will complement the city's vision of a 24-hour seven day per week Boston Harbor community that is vibrant, accessible and welcoming to residents, financial district employees and visitors alike."

The major public amenities to InterContinental Boston include the publicly accessible wharf and walkway that will act as part of the Harborwalk, new access ways to the Harbor directly from Atlantic Avenue, reconstruction of the wharf area, development of a water shuttle terminal, ground floor retail and restaurants and an outdoor café.

The architect for Intercontinental Boston is Howard Elkus of the Boston firm of Elkus/Menfredi. Interior design of the residences is being developed by nationally renowned interior designer Celeste Cooper.

The project site, which was owned and used as commercial property by Boston Edison for the past century, overlooks the Fort Point Channel and is adjacent to new park land to be developed by the Massachusetts Horticultural Society along Rose Kennedy Greenway.
